The monster that swallows me

Stasi prison April 14, 1985

7am.

Leipzig main railway station is a beautiful monster.
It swallows you with your purpose.
Engulfs you with rock and light.
Spits you right out.

Leipzig main railway station

Leipzig main railway station is one of the largest in Europe with 26 platforms and a huge area surrounding it. It is a major hub in the middle of East Germany.

Hardened old bread roll with fat cheese and thin coffee.
Soldiers and drunks share the restaurant.
Mix their sleeplessness and odor.
Garlic, felt and booze.

What if they shoot me at the checkpoint?
Should I run towards the border?
Should I hold up a poster?
What if, what if…

Always loved this station.
We got arrested here once.
A friend traveled with a guitar.
We sat on the floor and sang songs.

“Unerlaubte Gruppenbildung"

The train is almost empty.
I feel relaxed and focused.
The world flies by - THEIR world.
