Poems

Stasi prison May 05, 1985

Felt like a short weekend.
Started writing again.
Poems.

In my poems book 'Kopfgeburt' released in 1992 I published some poems from the Stasi prison time. Since I wasn't able to smuggle them out or take them along from one stage to another through the political prison system I memorized them and wrote them down after I made it to the West.

A shy boy as I was I had easier access to my written voice.
Especially when approaching girls in 4th grade.
And I had some successes with it.

Falling in love was the plan.
A teacher did, with my talent.
She pushed me to tournaments.

Ever since I handled my pains and confusion by writing.
So I wrote against what I thought was wrong.
Attitudes, politics, lack of freedom.

There are a ton of question marks right now.
So I might just as well write about them.
My own and some for everyone else.

In this prison inside a prison.

Years after my escape I competed my first book with poems, some of which from my time as a political prisoner in East Germany at Stasi prisons. The poem above "Fragezeichen" (German for question mark) you can also find here at the dedicated site for the 'Kopfgeburt' book.

*Testimony -> Start. This blog entry is part of a linear narrated testimony of the contemporary witness Jens Thieme who was imprisoned 1985-1986 as a political prisoner in various GDR prisons by the GDR Ministry of State Security. Stasi prison, Stasi jail, Stasi detention.
