Leaving forever

Stasi prison April 13, 1985

10pm.

Spending some time with my parents doesn’t clear my head.

Leipzig Grünau muddy street 1985

Leipzig Grünau (up to 45'000 population), I lived here with my parents from 1983 to 1985. The mud in the streets was a constant challenge. You could see scores of people with a pair of shoes entering the trams and trains to switch with their rubber boots.

I have always loved my folks. I grew up protected.
We didn’t have much. But we had each other.
They’d sell their soul for us kids.
They did not.

My brother went to a boarding school when I was 13.
We are as close as you can get when you see each other once a month.
No phone.

Utter sadness sets in.
This is my parents life.
Boxed in.
6 to 6 work days.
Exhausted from trying to be happy.
I love them.

And I will leave them in the morning.

Forever.
