Session "Centralization CI"

At SCIA September 2007

Following an invitation of the "Swiss Competitive Intelligence Alliance (SCIA)" to present at their 3rd association meeting I was thrilled to meet intelligence professionals from al walks of life in Switzerland and beyond in Zurich September 18th, 2007.

SCIA members from Clariant, Holcim, Jet Aviation, Nestlé, Phonak, Siemens, Syngenta and Swiss Life were present as was Markko Vaarnas, the CEO of the Global Intelligence Alliance (GIA) to present their global network of partnering intelligence and market research firms as well as their own technological and analytical solutions.

Based on the case study at Ciba (where I am responsible for Market & Competitive Intelligence) that I wrote in detail in SCIP's upcoming book "Starting a Competitive Intelligence Function" I presented "Challenges, Obstacles, Path to Success" of the a challenging but very rewarding journey we have experienced at Ciba.

I will run similar sessions at SCIP's "2007 European Competitive Intelligence Summit", the "3rd Annual Chemical Sales & Marketing Effectiveness Conference 19th and 20th February 2008 - Amsterdam by Jacob-Fleming", and some more exciting events that I will announce here at my blog.

In reflection of the session I was impressed by the amount of productive discussion (that left me starving next to the excellent buffet ;-) and the positive feedback for the presentation. While many large Swiss corporations do entertain quit significant intelligence functions the smaller, still international companies surely recognize the importance of the competitive intelligence discipline.

I was able to gain insight into some of the start up headaches that are quite similar to my own experience as well as I witnessed some stunning excitement by some of the early adopters and CI drivers in Switzerland.
